Back in 2000, Japanese Manga was a relatively unknown term in the West. But as I write this, the Otaku Phenomenon has taken its share in the current West, specifically the Spanish-speaking community.
Manga has become a popular hobby among many enthusiasts across the world, and rightly so – the manga artists do a great job in creating stories that push you to the edge of your seat. Graphics, on the other hand, play their part in making your eyeballs stuck until the end of the chapter. In simple words, they are just incredible.
However, manga is usually made for Japan only, and that is why it gets pretty difficult to find them in other languages. I have been a manga fan myself, and Spanish is my mother tongue. When I started my journey of making manga as a hobby, it was pretty difficult for me to find them in Spanish language.
But over the years, I have done enough to find some reliable websites and communities that translate manga into other languages, especially Spanish. Are you curious about some of the best ones? Yes? Great, let me walk you through them.
Is Reading Manga in Spanish Legal?
Well, reading manga in Spanish in itself is legal, but where you get to read this is questionable.
Here’s the thing: the translated version of manga, especially the ones that are underrated or lesser known, are extremely limited. Therefore, you won’t be able to find them easily online. So, the only option left that is kind of legal is communities, forums, and websites that don’t take the credit away from the actual creator.
Please note that I am not saying that those websites and online communities are 100% legitimate. If legality is your concern, then you need to steer clear of these translated versions and learn Japanese.
If you do not care about the 100% legality of things, then you can read on to find such websites.
3 Platforms to Read Manga From
As I said earlier, the official websites do offer manga, but their Spanish versions are still limited. Anyhow, you can find them below:
Hoopla
Hoopla is one of the best names when it comes to reading manga online for free. It is not limited to just manga as you will be able to find free comic as well.
Hoopla offers great search capabilities that can help you quickly filter out exactly what you need. Apart from that, the best feature that I adore about the Hoopla is its offline download capabilities. You can download your favorite titles and read them on the go.
It offers one of the biggest libraries for manga and comics. The genres it generally covers are adventure, science fiction, mystery, and more.
Having said that, it is not all rainbows and sunshine as it has some problems. Even though it is a free platform, you need an access card to a library to sign up for the platform. Plus, it has limited number of borrow that you can get. This sometimes becomes annoying when you are binge reading manga.
Apart from that, it is a great platform and ultimate source of manga comics for fans.
Manga Plus by Shueisha
I think this is the best official source when it comes to the translated version of the manga.
It offers hits like One Piece and more, and that too in Spanish. It has a desktop as well as a mobile version, so you can read it on the go. The mobile version of Manga Plus is pretty intuitive to use – it doesn’t have any issues while moving to and from a chapter.
I personally read my favorite series on the go via Manga Plus, thanks to Cox Internet. Not only do I get to enjoy free public WiFi for my internet needs while commuting, I can always upgrade the internet plan with the help of bilingual customer support from Cox en español.
Anyway, since Manga Plus is an official source, only the first three and the last three chapters are free. That means you’ve got to pay for the legality if you strive for that.
GlobalComix
If you want to steer clear of the pirated content and violating someone’s intellectual property rights, then this platform is for you.
GlobalComix offers a great library of popular and some underrated titles. You won’t get bored, as you will always find something interesting to read from the huge library of titles, but for that, you need to pay. GlobalComix either works on a subscription model, or you will have to purchase titles individually.
One of the best things that I like about GlobalComix is that if offers platform to new creators. If you are a writer yourself, you can try publishing your content. Anyway, it is one of the better platforms to read manga in Spanish officially.
So, that’s it. These are the platforms from which you can read manga in your native language, that is, Spanish. Do check them out if you don’t know Japanese but love manga.
